Been billed for
something you weren't expecting? Perhaps billed for something
you should not have been charged for? Is your hosting company
playing fair?
When you are
sent a bill you do not pay, you face having your credit rating
ruined for non-payment. You may also be locked-out of your
account.
As a follow-up to our piece on
CREDIT CARDS, we also need to
alert you to other dangers.
Scenario: You have been billed
for something you believe you have cancelled. But you have
been auto-renewed. You tell your hosting company that you
cancelled, and after a period of time you either get a full
refund, or you get threatened with solicitors and debt
collectors.
Worse still, and in either
situation, you find that your products, and specifically your
domain names, are still in the control of your hosting
company. They have locked you out of your account to the
degree you cannot transfer, change ownership, etc. At least
not without having to speak to a customer services
representative who will no doubt try to persuade you to pay a
bill you should not have received so you can get access to
your products.
The customer services
representative may also expect you to continue doing business
with his/her company despite being treated so badly.
This is no way to treat
customers.
